How much light does hemp plant need?
Hemp plants require a significant amount of light to thrive and achieve optimal growth. Here are some general guidelines regarding the light requirements for hemp plants:
Light intensity: Hemp plants typically require high light intensity for vigorous growth. During the vegetative stage, it is recommended to provide around 10,000 to 20,000 lux (or 1,000 to 2,000 foot-candles) of light. As the plants transition to the flowering stage, the light intensity can be increased to 20,000 to 40,000 lux (or 2,000 to 4,000 foot-candles) to support bud development.
Light duration: Hemp plants generally benefit from long days or extended periods of light exposure during the vegetative stage. A light cycle of 18 to 24 hours of light per day is commonly used during this stage to promote robust vegetative growth. As the plants enter the flowering stage, reducing the light cycle to 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness triggers the flowering process.
Light spectrum: Hemp plants require a full spectrum of light, including blue, red, and other wavelengths. Blue light (in the range of 400-500 nanometers) is important during the vegetative stage for leafy growth, while red light (in the range of 600-700 nanometers) is crucial for flower development during the flowering stage.
